There is no best player. It depends on what you expect of it (size, sound, flash memory, weight, design, features, price ...).

I own two Pontis SP600 and I'm very satisfied with them. The SP600 has a very good sound, nice features and a good display. But it is rather big for an MP3 player. The price is also hot. You can use SD and CF Cards in this player, each one up to 2 GB.
But it has an USB bug that causes errors on many computers so an external card reader is highly recommendet for that player.
